Mercury’s Harmless–So Why is Norway Banning It?

Because they have more cojones than we do, and because they know mercury is a neurotoxin responsible for poor health and (probably) autism.

Norway Becomes First Country to Ban Amalgam Fillings

Friday, April 04, 2008 by: Adam Miller (see all articles by this author)
| Key concepts: mercury, mercury pollution and natural health

http://www.naturalnews.com/022943.html

(NaturalNews) Effective January 1st of this year, Norway has become the first nation to legislate a sweeping ban on the use of amalgam fillings in dental work. Previous laws forbid the use of mercury-containing fillings in more vulnerable segments of the population, such as pregnant women and children, but the new law is the first to forbid the use of the toxic metal without exemption. Mercury has also been banned from all other products produced, imported, exported, sold, and used in the country.

In a prepared statement, Norway’s Minister of Environment and Development, Erik Solheim stated that “Mercury is among the most dangerous environmental toxins. Satisfactory alternatives to mercury in products are available, and it is therefore fitting to introduce a ban.”

Sweden has followed suit with a ban on mercury fillings effective April 1st, 2008, and other countries are now contemplating similar moves.

Amalgam fillings, which unbeknownst to many are composed primarily of mercury, raise the level of mercury circulating in the blood. Mercury is listed as one of the most toxic substances on earth and many who are sensitive to the substance have reported improvements in health upon removal of the toxic fillings. The Norwegian and Swedish bans come at a time when alternative composite fillings have become strong enough to replace amalgams under practically any circumstance.

The issue, however, is as much environmental as it is salutary. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, medical waste incinerators emit 70,000 pounds of mercury into the biosphere each year, making medical use of the metal one of the leading contributors to mercury pollution. So the question has to be asked, why has U.S. policy been so slow to catch up with common sense?

“These bans clearly indicate that amalgam is no longer needed. There are viable non-mercury filling substitutes that are used everyday in the U.S.,” said Michael Bender of the U.S. Mercury Policy Project. “By eliminating amalgam use, which is 50% mercury, we can reduce mercury pollution much more efficiently than end-of-the-pipeline solutions.”

It should come as no surprise that many figures in the U.S. are taking the new emerging consensus kicking and screaming. “Banning ‘dental amalgam’ is a political issue that will not only have no impact on total worldwide mercury pollution, but also removes a viable treatment option for dentists and their patients,” argues Derek Jones in an editorial published in the Journal of Dental Research. Bold steps are being taken, but there is still much work to be done before a similar ban will be seen in the U.S.

The Dangers of Artificial Food Colorings

Many people with autism/adhd have had great success following the Feingold diet, which, in part, eliminates all foods with conventional (read: unnatural) food colorings. Do a web search for the “Feingold diet.” In general, white/refined sugar and wheat, colorings, and flavors aren’t good for anyone, but especially not autistics.

How food companies fool consumers with food coloring ingredients made from petrochemicals

by Mike Adams

Have you ever wondered why companies use artificial colors? You might think it’s because they want to make their food look good, but there’s another reason — a far deeper reason — why companies use artificial colors to make their foods more appealing to consumers. Keep reading to learn what that is.

Why do foods with more vibrant, saturated colors look more appealing to consumers? Why does a bright-red apple look more appealing than a dull-red apple or a green apple? Why are foods sold to us in neon green, yellow and orange packages? The reason is that of the color of food speaks to humans’ innate perceptions about the value of food items.

Humans are born with brains that are preprogrammed with the ability to learn language; or to recognize certain inherent dangers such as falling off a ledge. We also have all kinds of behaviors built in for survival. One of the survival strategies our ancestors developed was the ability to recognize foods containing usable energy or nutrition. They could walk through a field and instantly spot foods that contained potent, healing phytonutrients and calories that would give them usable energy, healthy brain function, boost immune function and boost overall survivability. The natural medicines found in food often appear in bright colors, and calorie-rich foods designed to appeal to primates (such as apples or berries) are also brightly colored. It is these colors that appeal to our built-in perceptions about the value of food. (Birds have a similar system and also tend to judge food by its color.)

Color is a reliable indicator of the healthful quality of foods. An apple that has red in its peel, for example, actually sends a message: “Hey, I’m here. I have some healing medicine in my skin.” That’s why humans are naturally attracted to more vibrant-looking apples. Berries, fruits, root vegetables and other foods broadcast similar messages through their own coloring.

Eating the rainbow diet

You may have heard of the rainbow diet, in which you eat foods of different colors. It is based on the idea that different foods carry different energies and provide different types of nutritional medicine. There is a real science to that, and an art as well. You can examine phytochemicals and their healing effects, and categorize them by color. There are foods that are purple, blue, green, yellow, red, orange, brown — all the colors of the spectrum — and each food has a different medicine. Our ancestors learned to recognize foods by their color, and they also learned that foods with more vibrant colors in their natural environment contain a lot more medicine.

For example, a red cabbage that is actually a dull grey doesn’t look very appealing, but a purple cabbage with a saturated, bright-purple color looks fantastic. That’s because we have an innate perception gauge telling us we should be attracted to these foods — they are healthier for us, and the health quality is indicated by the saturation of the color.

This is what food-manufacturing companies are exploiting when they enhance colors artificially.

Food makers use harmful dyes to get you to buy

When you shop for oranges, you’re looking for a bright, deeply colored orange. You don’t want a yellowish orange, because that tells you it’s not ripe; if it’s not ripe, it hasn’t developed all its medicine. (That’s one reason why so much of the produce available in grocery stores lacks real nutrition these days — it’s all picked before it has a chance to ripen on the plant.)

Growers know about this color preference, so some of them — in Florida for example — hijack that instinctual process by dipping some of their oranges in a cancer-causing red dye that makes the peel look more orange. The FDA has banned that dye from use in foods, because it is a carcinogen, but they say it’s okay to dip an orange in it, because people don’t eat the peel. If a consumer is comparing two oranges — one of them is yellow, and one of them is deep, rich orange — most consumers are going to pick up the deeper, richer looking orange.

Food manufacturers use artificial colors because, when they make their foods more colorful, it turns on the light switch in our brains that says, “This is good stuff.” We’ve been fooled; we’ve been drawn like a moth to a flame. If you took one nacho chip with flavors but no color and put it beside another nacho chip with the exact same flavors but lots of artificial colors to make it look more orange, and you asked people to pick which chip they think would taste better, almost everyone will choose the chip with the color. The color can actually fool your mind into thinking that these foods taste better.

Food colors are made from petroleum

Coal tar and petrochemicals are the sources of the artificial colors that go into our foods, and these artificial coloring ingredients are dangerous to our health. The human body was not designed to eat petrochemicals. You don’t see people digging up petroleum and drinking it with a straw. That’s not the kind of energy we’re designed to run on. So why are we putting petrochemicals in our foods?

The food companies are doing it to sell a product and generate a profit, regardless of the health effects on consumers — and the health effects have been worrisome. In fact, more than one artificial color has been banned and pulled off the market over the last several decades because it was ultimately found to cause cancer. The safety of those still allowed on the market is highly questionable.

Eventually, artificial colors used in the food supply will likely be outlawed because they contribute to all sorts of health problems, the most notable of which are the symptoms diagnosed as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a behavioral pattern often brought on by Yellow #2 food dye. Children are being fed these chemicals in such large quantities that they begin to have nervous system malfunctions that ultimately are misdiagnosed as ADHD, learning disabilities, or violent behavior.

If you want to reverse these so-called diseases in your children, one of the best things you can do is stop feeding them petrochemicals. That means you, as the parent, have to understand that your very instincts are being hijacked by food companies’ use of artificial colors to sell their garbage products. It’s automatic, it’s innate and it’s unconscious. You look at foods and you instantly evaluate them by their color. It’s something that you can’t stop doing because it’s part of your perception hardware. Food companies know this and they exploit it to sell you unhealthy foods artificially colored to look nutritious.

How to defend yourself against dishonest food companies

So what’s your defense against this? How can you take control over your own mind and make better decisions at the grocery store? You’re taking the first step right now by reading this: you’re educating yourself. All you have to do is take this information and apply it by reading ingredient labels. Look for artificial food coloring ingredients like Yellow #2, Red #5 or Blue Lake #40, and then avoid them. Don’t buy those products. It’s as simple as that. Instead, you look for natural food coloring ingredients. There are products colored with beet juice, a much healthier way to color food; annatto, a very healthy plant source; or turmeric, a fantastic herb with anticancer, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

With a little checking around, you will discover that all the cheap, low-grade, disease-promoting products in the grocery store tend to use these artificial colors. You will also find that the same snack chips, processed foods, boxed dinner meals, and junk food made by the biggest food companies also contain refined white flour, MSG and hydrogenated oils. It’s really no surprise they mostly all contain an artificial color of one kind or another.

Also, you should watch out for artificial colors in fruit drinks and candy. There are loads of artificial colors in candy, which makes for a very bad combination — especially for children. If you give kids a load of sugar and petrochemicals together in the same meal, their nervous systems go crazy. That’s why you have kids climbing the walls after feeding them candy and sugary drinks with artificial colors.

Another repeat offender in this category is “sport drinks,” which are loaded with petrochemical artificial colors that have no purpose other than to make the beverage visually appealing to consumers. There’s no nutritional value whatsoever to using artificial colors, which means most sports drinks are a complete waste of money: they’re just salt water with sugar and artificial colors added. If you want a real sports drink, you should juice some celery and cucumber, or just drink coconut water. That’s real replenishment.

The confectionery industry relies heavily on artificial colors to make its foods — like cake and icing — look appealing as well. Icing is usually made of hydrogenated soybean oil, which is a nerve toxin, combined with refined sugars, which are dietary poisons that cause diabetes. The petrochemical-based artificial colors are used to top it off. If you really want to commit nutritional suicide, eat a lot of icing. Get yourself some iced doughnuts, cakes and pastries, and load up.

You’ll notice artificial colors in foods like blueberry muffins or blueberry bagels, too. Read the ingredients on blueberry bagels at your local grocery store next time, and you’ll find that there are really no blueberries but plenty of artificial blue and green colors to create the impression of little blueberry bits. They can’t even put blueberries in their bagels. They have to trick you with artificial colors.

Do you know what liquid they’re using to hold the color? Propylene glycol — the same chemical you put into your RV when you want to winterize it. It is antifreeze. You’re eating antifreeze and petrochemicals — and that’s just the blueberry part. We haven’t even gotten to everything else, like refined sugars, chemical preservatives and refined bleached white flour, which has diabetes-causing contaminants. A blueberry bagel is no longer a blueberry bagel. When you really understand what’s in the foods, it’s mind blowing.

Artificial colors sometimes find their way into salmon before it even becomes food

Artificial colors turn up in a lot of interesting places. Many salmon farms are adding artificial color to their food to make the salmon flesh appear more red because that’s what consumers will buy. They’ll buy red or pink salmon over grey salmon any day of the week because their instincts tell them deeper, richer colors are healthier. Imitation crab meat has artificial colors added to make part of the meat look red — but at least the label includes the word “artificial,” so you can avoid it if you read labels.

The biggest form of dishonesty across the entire food industry is the use of artificial colors that influence you to buy and consume foods that actually harm your health (such as snack chips made with MSG). The food companies have figured out how to hack into your perception hardware. They send one message to your eyes, but they manufacture foods out of something entirely different. The bottom line is that foods, through the use of artificial colors, are sending an incongruent message: “I’m a healthy food.” But the reality is, “I’m harmful junk food.”

These companies employ tens of thousands of food scientists in the United States alone. They figure out how to make foods more palatable and less expensive by using the cheapest ingredients possible while prettying them up with artificial food colors made from petrochemicals.

Food coloring from insects

I have one more interesting tidbit I’d like to share with you. You may be familiar with a red color ingredient called carmine; it can be found in strawberry yogurt and a variety of other products. Carmine is sourced from a mash made by grinding up beetles grown in Peru and the Canary Islands. The mash is strained out to obtain a red liquid. That liquid, made from insects, is then shipped to the United States to food companies, where it is dumped into the yogurt to make it look like there are strawberries in there. Folks, it’s not strawberry. It’s insect juice. That’s what’s in your yogurt (and a lot of candy and children’s foods as well).

Some people have a dangerous allergic reaction to this ingredient. They can go into anaphylactic shock, which puts them in a coma (or worse!). As this demonstrates, some of these color additives can be extremely dangerous, but you’ll notice companies don’t put this information on their labels. “Insect juice” is never listed on your yogurt. They merely list “carmine,” and they leave it up to you to figure out what that means. Ninety-nine percent of people in this world have no idea what carmine really is, but now you do.

Another Vaccine Scam: Hep B for Newborns? Is this necessary?

Filed under: big medicine, big pharma, vaccines and their dangers — Tags: , — sesame seed @ 9:36 pm
The newly released 2002 immunization schedule encourages the routine use of hepatitis B vaccine for all infants before hospital discharge to

  • Safeguard against maternal hepatitis B testing errors and test reporting failures
  • Protect neonates discharged to households in which hepatitis B chronic carriers other than the mother may reside
  • Enhance the completion of the childhood immunization series

The annual “Recommended Childhood Immunization Schedule” of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is issued in January of each year.

Pediatrics Vol. 109 No. 1 January 2002, pp. 162

Dr. Mercola’s Comment:Folks I am outraged. We need to take action now. These recommendations are inexcusable. There is no possible logical recommendation for this action. All of these arguments are fatally flawed. If you are new to the site these may sound like lunatic ramblings of some quack, but before you come to that, or a similar conclusion, I challenge you to examine the facts. The central fact, and the one that helps to explain these insane recommendations, is that the maker of the hepatitis B vaccine, Merck, makes about $1 billion a year from vaccine sales.

A billion dollars a year goes a long way toward influencing public policy.

Who is Behind This?

The group that is pushing this through is called The Hepatitis B coalition. Part of the Immunization Action Coalition, this group was started by a $750,000 grant from the CDC. It is supported by the World Health Organization, World Bank, Rockefeller Foundation and ongoing funding from Smith-Kline, Merck, Aventis and Johnson & Johnson.

Let us not forget that it has been less than three years since the federal government asked the drug companies to take mercury out of this vaccine, and they still haven’t complied.

I have seen many dozens of children who were given this vaccine on the first day of life and subsequently developed autism. Others, like Michael Belkin’s daughter, weren’t as lucky and died immediately after the vaccine.

Michael is a successful Wall Street Financial analyst with his own company, and has testified to Congress on this issue and regularly forwards news health stories to me.

Well in the single dose hepatitis B vials, the drug companies have replaced the mercury with aluminum, which is another potent neurotoxin that has been associated with Alzheimer’s. But who knows what damage it will do to the immature central nervous system of a one-day old infant.

The multi dose hepatitis B vials still contain mercury.

Folks, hepatitis B is about as difficult to catch as AIDS. Namely, you nearly always need to have blood or sexual contact of some sort. That is why the main risk factors are IV drug abusers and those who engage in sex with multiple partners.

Is Hepatitis Vaccine Safe?

The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) was developed by the government to report vaccine reactions. Many experts believe that only 10% of the adverse reactions are reported though as reporting is not mandated by law.

Even with only 10% of the problems being reported there were nearly 25,000 VAERS hepatitis B reports from July 1990 to October 31, 1998, showing 439 deaths and 9673 serious reactions involving emergency room visits, hospitalization, disablement or death.

The presence of findings such as brain edema in healthy infants who die very soon after receiving hepatitis B vaccine is profoundly disturbing, especially in view of the frequency of neurologic symptoms in the VAERS.

Does this make any sense?

Is Hepatitis B Vaccine Effective in Newborns?

Vaccine derived immunity is thought to be short lived. Between 30-50% of vaccinated individuals lose their antibiodies within 7 years.

Up to 60% of persons who initially respond will lose detectable antibodies within 12 years.. So that means that these vaccines will provide little to no protection to the real risks of acquiring hepatitis B, promiscuous sexual behavior and IV drug abuse.

Does this make any sense?

How Many Children Are Hurt or Helped By Hepatitis B Vaccine?

Hepatitis B is a rare, mainly blood-transmitted disease. In 1996 only 54 cases of the disease were reported to the CDC in the 0-1 age group. There were 3.9 million births that year, so the observed incidence of hepatitis B in the 0-1 age group was just 0.001%. In the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), there were 1,080 total reports of adverse reactions from hepatitis B vaccine in 1996 in the 0-1 age group, with 47 deaths reported.

Let us put this in simpler terms. For every child with hepatitis B there were 20 that were reported to have severe complications. Let us also remember that only 10% of the reactions are reported to VAERS, so this means:

Traditional medicine is harming 200 children to protect one from hepatitis B.

Does this make any sense?

How Serious Is a Hepatitis B Infection?

The numbers speak for themselves.

Approximately 50% of patients who contract Hepatitis B develop no symptoms after exposure.

However, the exposure ensures that they will have life-time immunity. An additional 30% develop only flu-like symptoms, and again, this group will acquire life-time immunity.

Of the remaining 20% exposed to Hepatitis B will develop the symptoms of the disease. 95% of this 20% will fully recover, with life-time immunity.

Therefore, less than 5% of people who contract Hepatitis B will become chronic carriers of the infection.

The numbers get even smaller: of that 5%, nearly 75% (or 3.75% of the total exposed) will live with an asymptomatic infection and only 25%, (or only 1.25% of the total number of people exposed) will develop chronic liver disease or liver cancer, 10-30 years after the acute infection. (Hyams, K.C. (1995) Risks of chronicity following acute hepatitis B virus infection: A review. Clin. Infect. Dis. 20, 992-1000.)

Think of that in terms of probability: the possibility of contracting the disease is exceedingly difficult for children and only 1.25% of those that are exposed will actually develop the most serious complication!

This type of a “protecting the needle in the haystack” medicine is absurd at best, dangerous at worst.

Does this make any sense?

How Many Safety Studies Have Been Done On Hepatitis B Vaccine?

None.

A manufacturer’s representative was asked in a 1997 Illinois Board of Health hearing to show evidence that the hepatitis B vaccine is safe for a 1-day old infant. The representative stated:

“We have none. Our studies were done on 5- and 10-year-olds.”

— The Congressional Quarterly, August 25, 2000, pg. 647

One would think that these would be mandatory, but they are not. All that is required is to show efficacy, (i.e. that the vaccine stimulates an antibody response after it is give), not safety.

In most other industries the fraud represented here would lead to criminal charges.

Does this make any sense?

What Can You Do?

Please tell every pregnant woman you know who about this issue. They need to know the facts BEFORE they are in the hospital and have time to make an informed objective decision. If they are still convinced their child needs hepatitis B vaccine, beg them to make sure their child does not receive the vaccine as a newborn. Delay the vaccine until they really are at a possible risk, like late adolescence.

I am not asking much here. Only some compassion for the helpless. If you have ever seen the agony of families who are struggling with caring for brain injured children you will know what I mean.

I have shown dozens of times in this newsletter, drugs that are thought to be safe are pulled from the market after they have killed dozens or hundreds of people. I am hopeful that hepatitis B vaccinations in newborns will be stopped. Medical science will have to recognize the truth sooner or later.

Folks, drug deaths pale in comparison to the devastation in lost lives that is resulting from implementation of this hepatitis B recommendation.

You can play a large role here. Most of all us did not have a chance to make a difference in the 9/11 tragedy, but nearly everyone of us can help protect the precious brain cells of a newborn.

Don’t Delay.

Contact every pregnant woman you know immediately. Save a life.

God Bless you in your efforts to protect the future of our civilization.

Note To Physicians:I am a member of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS). This is a group of over 10,000 US medical doctors, and most of us have reached the conclusion that the head of the organization, Dr. Jane Orient, has about this issue. To the extent that the physician simply complies without making an independent evaluation of the appropriateness of the vaccine for each patient, he is abdicating his responsibility under the Oath of Hippocrates to:

“prescribe regimen for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone.”

Dr. Mercola has it right again! Trifecta!

Filed under: alternative health news, autism/adhd — Tags: , , , , , , — sesame seed @ 4:47 am

Conventional medicine wants you to be sick so they can profit from your pain.  Heal thyself.

—————–

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2007/12/01/too-much-sugar-kills-your-sex-life.aspx

Sugars and starches kill you and your sex life.

Excerpt below:

I’ve been advocating ridding your diet of sugar for years now as it is one of the most powerful single physical actions you can take for your health. New evidence of sugar’s devastating health effects keep rolling in at regular intervals, adding to the previous consensus.

Table sugar is made of glucose and fructose, also known as simple sugars, and limiting sugar in your diet is a well-known key to longevity. Your blood glucose levels actually rise slightly every time you eat. This is natural. However, the average American now eats about 2.5 pounds of sugar every WEEK, which is far from natural. With this kind of diet, your blood glucose levels may very likely become excessively elevated, and stay that way.

It is a well-proven fact that sugar increases your insulin and leptin levels, and decreases receptor sensitivity for both of these vital hormones. This can lead to:

  • High blood pressure and high cholesterol
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Weight gain
  • Premature aging

Controlling your insulin levels is one of the most important things you can do to optimize your overall health, and avoiding sugar is essential to doing this.

However, what many people forget is that there are other sources of sugar, many of which are far more predominant in your diet than table sugar.

Don’t Forget About these “Hidden” Sources of Sugar!

High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is present in virtually all processed foods, not just soda (which is now the number one source of calories in the United States). A quick look at the labels of the foods you have in your pantry; from crackers, to jams, to fruit juices and processed meat products, will give you an idea of just how widespread the use of this dangerous sweetener really is.

Part of what makes HFCS such an unhealthy product is that it is metabolized to fat in your body far more rapidly than any other sugar, and, because most fructose is consumed in liquid form, its negative metabolic effects are significantly magnified. Despite this fact, the delusion that fructose is an acceptable form of sugar is quite prevalent in many nutritional circles.

HFCS has also been linked to:

Adding insult to injury, nearly all the corn that the high fructose corn syrup is metabolized from comes from genetically modified corn, which is fraught with its own well-documented side effects and health concerns.

And, lastly, although not as dangerous as sugar or HFCS, high-carbohydrate foods in the form of flour, grains, legumes, fruit, milk and starchy-vegetables also put a dent in your health.

In fact, most age-related diseases could best be described as “Excessive Carbohydrate Consumption Syndrome,” because the scientific evidence is clear; foods high in carbohydrates turn to glucose, which raises your metabolism and trigger the release of disease-causing hormones like insulin, cortisol and adrenaline.

Keeping your metabolism low is key for long life and optimal health. A high metabolism excites hormones in your body that eventually cause age-related diseases.

The pathogenic effects of carbohydrates are slow, but sure. The “20-year rule” was coined to describe the length of time between the start of the high-carbohydrate diet and the onset of disease. The number of diseases, severity and time to develop is directly related to the percentage of carbohydrates in your diet.

One reason for this is that carbohydrates displace essential protein and essential fats in your diet, which causes a double health reversal. The carbohydrates themselves cause disease, and the deficiency of protein and fats contribute or cause other diseases.

The consumption of carbohydrates generally begins showing the disease effects in either one of two directions.

  • Body fat accumulation leads to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, gallbladder disease, degenerative bone diseases and many others.
  • Damage to the intestinal tract leads to leaky gut syndrome, inflammatory bowel diseases and a medical textbook listing of autoimmune diseases. These illnesses generally make the sufferer underweight and deficient in vitamins and minerals caused by poor digestion.

Avoid Getting Caught Up in Whole Grain Myth

Many people are surprised to learn that even whole grains can cause disease in both humans and animals. While whole grains are clearly superior to processed ones, they ultimately still break down relatively rapidly, and raise your insulin levels. About 15% of the population actually does well with them, but if you are one of the 85% of the population that struggles with insulin issues like being overweight, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes, then you will want to radically limit your consumption of whole grains.

Whole grain breads and bagels are not the healthy food that people are lead to believe. All grains have high levels of omega-6 fatty acids, which are pro-inflammatory. Grains are a poor source of protein, and they are also the most allergenic of all foods.

Following my nutrition plan is a simple way to automatically reduce your intake of both grains and sugars, which can increase your longevity, help you avoid chronic diseases, maintain normal sexual health and function, and keep your mental faculties sharp.

How to Kick the Sugar Habit

As I’ve reported previously, sugar can in fact be MORE addictive than cocaine, which would help explain why it’s so hard to just quit indulging in it. The sugar industry seems well aware of this fact, running a shrewd, well-oiled machine that will hook your children on their product right out of the cradle, if you let them.

Fortunately, energy psychology tools like the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) can be enormously helpful in ridding yourself of sugar cravings. It includes a marvelous technique called Turbo Tapping, which is one of the best solutions I know of for this particular challenge.

Also, instead of focusing on what you will be losing (negative focus); it helps to look at all the things you will be gaining, such as increased energy and a lower risk of many diseases. Meanwhile, you can enjoy healthy foods that are in-line with your nutritional type, such as meats, raw dairy products, fresh veggies, nuts and seeds, and much more.

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2007/12/01/do-high-fat-foods-disrupt-your-body-clock.aspx

How to improve your sleep? (Excerpt below)

The problem with virtually all diet studies like the one above is that they tend to ignore a profound foundational element of human physiology. The very foundation of their study presumes that all humans have similar food requirements.

If you have been reading this site for a while you will know that nothing could be further from the truth. Some were designed to eat high-fat, high-protein diets while others thrive on low-fat, low-protein diets.

Analysis of these premises becomes a bit more cloudy when you switch to animal models, as they tend to have a more homogenous genetic background, especially the animals that are bred for scientific experiments. The researchers are assuming they can generalize their findings to humans, but for this type of research I do not believe the science supports it.

So Just What Can You Do to Improve Your Sleep Cycle?

Your sleep/wake cycle, regulated by your circadian rhythm (or your body’s internal clock), has evolved over many years. If you violate these very powerful biorhythms, you are asking for trouble.

What may surprise you is that your body has many internal clocks — in your brain, lungs, liver, heart and even your skeletal muscles — and they all work to keep your body running smoothly by controlling temperature and the release of hormones.

Your heart rate, body temperature and hormone production vary with your personal internal clock. This, in turn, influences such things as:

  • The easiest time to detect disease in your body
  • The times when you’ll be less sensitive to pain
  • The times when you’ll be more productive at work

However, this is a very delicate system, and it is easily thrown off kilter. For instance, a study back in 1998 found that shining light on the backs of your knees (as opposed to light entering through your eyes as it normally does) can even alter your body’s clock.

Does your diet also impact your internal clock? Definitely.

What you eat sends your body signals about when to wake up and go to sleep. Your meals, which are typically at relatively consistent times throughout the day, also help to reinforce other time-setting activities.

In terms of foods themselves, protein-rich foods help your body to produce chemicals that tell you to wake up. High-carbohydrate foods, meanwhile, produce chemicals that tell you to go to sleep.

This is why jet lag, which occurs when your body’s inner clock is out of sync with the time cues it receives from your environment, can be significantly reduced by eating the right foods.

Another questionable aspect of the study is the fact that the mice were kept in darkness for the entire duration.

Changes in light dramatically impact your health and your biological clock. Mice do not typically live in complete darkness, so I question whether this impacted the results.

How to Keep Your Circadian Rhythm in Balance

Aside from being linked to obesity and diabetes, a disrupted circadian rhythm may influence cancer progression through shifts in hormones like melatonin, which your brain makes during sleep. So it’s crucial that you support your body’s natural sleep/wake cycle.

The following tips will help to keep your body’s internal clock running smoothly:

  • Sleep in total darkness!! If there is even the tiniest bit of light in your room it can disrupt your circadian rhythm and your pineal gland’s production of the hormones melatonin and serotonin.

This is the “hidden” secret that most people tend to ignore. This was recently brought to my attention when the highly knowledgeable chiropractor who works in my clinic, Dr. Lloyd Fielder, told me that he never fully appreciated the power of this intervention. He recently installed black out drapes in his bedroom and was shocked at how much better he felt — it radically improved the quality of his sleep.

So do yourself a favor this holiday season and purchase yourself some black out drapes. You will be shocked at how much better you feel, and you will also radically lower your risk of cancer.

  • Sleep when it’s dark outside and get up when the sun comes up. This is another largely ignored — yet vitally important — health principle. You should at least strive to sleep between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. This means you should be in bed, with the lights out, by 10 p.m. and be up by 6 a.m. If this is difficult for you, keep in mind that people naturally followed this pattern before the advent of electricity. This has been an important part of Ayurvedic medicine for over 5,000 years.
  • Avoid working the night shift. It’s been linked to significantly lower levels of serotonin, which may cause sleep problems, anger, depression and anxiety. If you currently work the night shift, I would strongly suggest trying to switch your hours, or at the very least not keeping the night shift for longer than a couple of months at a time (and giving your body a chance to readjust in between).

Drugs more dangerous than Cocaine are not the solution for autism, ADHD

The number of children being harmed, perhaps for life, by unnecessary drugging is truly heartbreaking. Especially when there are so many simple, safe, and healthy options. Many are reluctant to adopt unproven alternatives, but the great news is that  scientific proof supports these non-drug, non-invasive alternatives.

Even if Ritalin, the primary drug used for ADHD, were proven effective, would you really want to give your child a drug that is very similar to cocaine?

More Scientific Proof Food is the Answer – Not Drugs

For example, research by the University of Adelaide in Australia confirmed that fish oil improves the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) without any of the side effects of drugs like Ritalin and Concerta — and more effectively at that!

They gave 130 children, between the ages of 7 and 12 with ADHD, daily fish oil capsules. The children’s behavior improved dramatically within three months. They also found that:

  • After seven months, the children were not as restless and showed improvements at school
  • Improvements in concentration and attention improved by one-third
  • After 15 weeks, 30-40 percent of the children taking fish oil had improvements
  • After 30 weeks, 40-50 percent improved
  • Children taking placebo capsules were later switched to fish oil and subsequently also experienced improved behavior

Improvements were still being seen after the study ended, which suggests that fish oils may have long-term effects.

What’s the Real Price of ADHD Drugs?

ADHD drugs are known to carry serious side effects, including:

So, why – if these alternatives work – treat millions of children with drugs that are more powerful stimulants than cocaine?

Money! Huge Profits!

And, as you may already have noticed, more and more adults are now “diagnosed” with ADD/ADHD. And why not? As Matthew Emmens, chief executive of Shire Pharmaceuticals (a British manufacturer of Adderall) stated in a 2005 article, “The adult market is three times the size of the 1.14 billion-a-year children’s market and is ripe and moving in the right direction.” This should be a telling statement for anyone under the illusion that these drugs are created for the betterment of society.

But can it really be said that a community of drugged adolescents and adults is a good thing? Using brain imaging, scientists have found that, in pill form, Ritalin occupies more of the neural transporters responsible for the ‘high’ experienced by addicts than smoked or injected cocaine… We’re essentially creating a generation of legalized drug users.

Strattera, the only ADHD drug approved for use in adults, was found to cause serious liver damage. In 2005, Eli Lilly agreed to put a “black box” warning label on the drug, listing the following signs and symptoms that might indicate potential liver problems:

  • Pruritus (Itchy skin)
  • Jaundice
  • Dark urine
  • Upper right-sided abdominal tenderness
  • Unexplained “flu-like” symptoms

Does Anyone Know What Causes ADHD?

Most would answer no, we don’t. However, we do know the food choices of most children are beyond poor. How could you possibly expect a child to have normal behavior if he is fed refined grains, sugars, processed foods loaded with chemicals, and juices and sodas instead of pure water? Add to that 90 percent fewer vegetables than what is required for health, along with an overabundance of omega-6 fats and a virtual lack of omega-3 fats.

If you are a cook you will immediately recognize that this is a recipe for disaster. You simply cannot have a healthy functioning brain in a child that is not given the proper ingredients to develop optimal brain function.

This is not rocket science, folks. But it is easy to understand why there is so much confusion regarding this issue when the drug companies spend BILLIONS of dollars to confuse you with direct-to-consumer ads on TV, in addition to brainwashing physicians to stick to the belief system that drugs, not foods, are the answer for children with behavior problems.

Five Powerful Tools to Virtually Eliminate ADHD!

  • Eliminate most grains and sugars from your/your child’s diet
  • Replace soft drinks, fruit juices and pasteurized milk with clean water
  • Increase omega-3 fats by taking an effective form of omega-3 oil like krill oil or fish oil
  • Minimize your use of nearly all vegetable oils — they are loaded with omega-6 fats, which distort the powerful omega-6:3 ratio
  • Avoid all processed foods, especially those containing artificial colors, flavors and preservatives
